RMK’s recreation areas and ecological reserves received 1.6 million visits last year 22.02

Last year, recreation areas and ecological reserves in the state forests received 1.6 million visits, up 80 000 year on year. According to Marge Rammo, Head of the Nature Preservation Department of RMK, the most visited locations are recreation areas in Tallinn, in Nõva and on the north shore of Lake Peipsi, and Lahemaa National Park.

“The results from the survey revealed that 85% of the population believe that opportunities for recreation and hiking in the State forests are needed and that as many as 93% of the visitors to recreation areas are satisfied with the service provided and the number of facilities,” Marge Rammo noted.

Furthermore, the survey revealed that RMK’s recreation areas are well known: 83% of the population are aware of them. “Thanks to the constant development of the infrastructure and the marking of recreation areas and paths, with each year ever more people are finding their way to the State forest for hiking or holidaying with their families,” Rammo pointed out and added that awareness of the availability of and facilities in recreation areas is highest amongst the younger and middle-aged Estonian-speaking population with a higher education.
