RMK Forest House

The RMK Forest House (Toompuiestee 24, Tallinn) is an architecturally fascinating place. The house consists of two parts: an older part, dating from 1903, and a newer part built in 1974.

Undoubtedly, the focal points of the house tour are the stained-glass windows which were made by Dolores Hoffmann, known as the grand old lady of Estonian stained-glass painting, together with architect Aate-Heli Õun, and are under heritage conservation, and the largest Tetrastigma Voniarum plant in Estonia – there is no other specimen as mighty as this one, even in the Tallinn or Tartu botanical gardens!

We will also view the most astonishing design element of the house, which is thousands of years old and hidden in the archive room. We will find out whose antlers decorate the 4th floor, and why the house at Toompuiestee 24 was historically called the Green House.

As part of Open House Tallinn 2023, on the 7th and 8th October, we will open the doors to our working and ancillary spaces, which are usually closed to visitors. Take this opportunity and come and visit us!

RMK employees act as the guides on RMK Forest House tours.

We’ll talk a bit about the history of the building, expand on its exciting design elements, and talk endlessly about how the state forests are doing today.

The guided tours take place at the top of each hour and last 45 minutes.
On two days, we also offer tours in English (at 11:00) and Russian (at 16:00). We will end the house tour in the courtyard, where we will offer pancakes and answer all your questions.

The event is free of charge, but pre-registration is required.
