02.01.2008 - The State Forest Management Centre’s ISO 14001 certificate was extended for three years 10.10
The re-certification audit carried out in the State Forest Management Centre (RMK) by Bureau Veritas Eesti OÜ in December 2007 confirmed RMK’s concordance with the requirements of the certificate of environmental management system ISO 14001:2004. The certificate was extended until 1 February 2011.
During the audit, interviews were conducted with the managers of all areas in RMK’s head office; adherence to the principles of the environmental management system was reviewed in districts centres and forest districts in South-Eastern and South-Western regions, in nursery management departments and in nurseries.
“A positive aspect was the professional knowledge and environmental awareness of employees interviewed during the audit. At the same time we constantly develop our environmental management system. The new management of RMK is planning changes in the conducting of internal audits of the environmental management system with the purpose of improving it,” said head auditor Raul Jürgenson.
Auditors also approved the stronger integration of standardised management systems into actual management. Incorporating elements of a quality management system with the management system has helped to bring out the main processes of the organisation and distinguish supporting processes. Auditors think that process maps can be used in the working order of the organisation and in preparing structural changes.
“Results of the re-certification audit were pleasing. However, RMK will have to work out guidelines for evaluating concordance with legal requirements by March. Thus work in improving the management system continues,” said Member of the Management Board of RMK, Tiit Timberg.
RMK is a profit-making state institution established under the Forest Act and its main task is the sustainable and effective management of the state forest. RMK grows forest regeneration material, organises work in the woods and sale of timber, and takes care of game. In addition, RMK creates possibilities for recreation in the rest areas in the forest and shapes nature awareness. RMK manages 38% of the forests in Estonia.
