In 2008, Luua Forestry School plans to organise courses for forwarder and harvester operators, foresters and persons aiming to be entrepreneurs, on the order of RMK.
"The first courses are mainly aimed at the current administrative employees of RMK, who wish to continue as workers in the forest in the future or provide services to us as entrepreneurs,” Aigar Kallas, Chairman of Management Board of RMK explained. “Luua provides the best training experience with its teaching staff and modern technological base”.
For the year 2008, a total of MEEK 5 has been planned in the budget of RMK for retraining and refresher courses. “The proportion of this sum, in the form of the courses to be conducted at Luua Forestry School, will be identified when the interest is realised,” Kallas specified.
"Our cooperation with RMK has been long-term, and mainly with respect to adult trainings. It has created trust, which is confirmed by involving the Luua Forestry School in the reorganisations of RMK via organising the retraining of employees,” said Haana Zuba, Principal of Luua Forestry School. According to her, no forestry company has entered into such an extensive retraining agreement for vocational education, before.
As a result of the structural changes approved by the supervisory board on 25 January, the number of job positions at RMK will not be decreased, but the content of the positions will be reorganised. The number of administrative staff related to forest management will decrease considerably, and the number of skilled workers will increase. Changes will concern about 250 administrative employees in the field of forest management.
RMK is a profit-making state agency established under the Forestry Act, aimed at sustainable and efficient management of the state forest. RMK grows reforestation materials, organises forestry works, is engaged in the sale of forest and timber, and organises game upkeep. In addition, RMK establishes opportunities for hiking in nature and forest recreation in recreational areas, and shapes awareness of nature. RMK manages 38% of Estonia’s forests.
