27.03.2008 - Forestry vision conference focuses on new possibilities and competitiveness of the forestry sector 10.10
According to Heiki Hepner, Project Manager of the vision conference, the development directions of forestry will be discussed, as well as the question whether science is moving away from real life or whether people just do not know what to wish for. “We will talk about bioenergetics and environmental business, examine the forestry myths roaming around Estonia and Europe, and analyse the competitiveness of the forestry sector,” he said, introducing the agenda.
The conference, to be held at the main building of the Estonian University of Life Sciences (Kreutzwaldi 1A) on 18 April, will be opened by Minister of the Environment Jaanus Tamkivi; presentations will be made by Member of the Riigikogu Taavi Veskimägi, Chairman of the Board of Repo Vabrikud Tiit Kolk, Member of the European Parliament Andres Tarand, Development Director of RMK Andres Onemar, and Director General of EUSTAFOR, Erik Kosenkranius. A longer presentation on the competitiveness of forestry will be made by Professor Sten Nilsson, who is also the Deputy Director of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA).
The forestry vision conference will be held as a preliminary event to forest week, which takes place every spring, and bears the same slogan as forest week – “Kasvab mets – kasvab Eesti“ (“Forest grows – Estonia grows“).
The participation fee is EEK 500 until 13 April; the price includes the fee for the conference and the after party. From 14 April, the participation fee will be EEK 1000. You can register for the conference on the RMK web page: www.rmk.ee/en. 20 free entries will be allowed for students, at the mediation of the Estonian University of Life Sciences.
