31.03.2008 - Local government leaders in Võru County understand the need for changes in RMK 10.10
On 28 March, Tiit Timberg, Member of the Management
Board of the State Forest Management Centre (RMK) met with the
Management Board of the Association of Local Authorities of Võrumaa to
introduce the reorganisation of RMK and answer the questions of local
government leaders.
In his presentation, Tiit Timberg gave an overview of the history of
RMK and explained the need for the current changes. The presentation
was followed by traditional questions on what will become of recreation
management, how the maintenance of forest roads are to be guaranteed
and what will become of the buildings of RMK that will be vacated.
“We reached a conclusion that cooperation with local governments must
definitely continue. When we get our structure and people sorted out,
we will provide local governments with contacts so that the necessary
people will be easily found,” said Tiit Timberg. “It appeared that the
mood previously expressed in the statements of the local government
unit had been replaced with understanding and a constructive wish for
cooperation”.
According to Tiit Tõnts, Rural Municipality Mayor of Antsla and
Chairman of the Association of Local Authorities of Võrumaa, local
government leaders wished to know exactly what RMK is planning and what
will become of the employees, as in South-East Estonia forests and
forest management are an important subject.
“Our questions were answered. If these matters had been discussed a
little earlier, there would not have been any misunderstandings. The
meeting left us with the impression that the system has been well
elaborated. Now we need to see how it works”.
