RMK selected as promoter of green economy 08.10
“We recognise public limited company ABB because the production
activities of the company support the use of renewable energy and they have implemented
an environmental management system in the management of their business as well
as production activities,” said Tea Nõmmann, Director of SEI Tallinn. “Pajumäe
Farm, in Viljandi County, fosters environmentally clean organic milk and
consumers appreciate their constantly expanding product line. RMK has created
possibilities for the public use of state forests, and sustainable forestry
standards and the environmental management system have been implemented within
the company,” said Nõmmann.
The green economy awards were presented for the first time. The purpose of the
award is to draw attention to companies implementing sustainable development.
The
topic of the Sustainable Development Forum, held yesterday, was “Prerequisites
and opportunities for the green economy in Estonia” and speakers included Ene
Ergma, President of the Estonian Parliament; Urmas Paet, Minister of Foreign
Affairs, who lead the Estonian delegation to the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro
this year; Dr. Paul Schreyer, Deputy Director of the OECD Statistics
Directorate; Bo Henriksson, Country Manager for ABB Baltic Countries; Dr. Arjen
Wals, Professor and UNESCO Chair of Social Learning and Sustainable
Development, Education and Competence Studies at Wageningen University and Tea
Nõmmann, Director of SEI Tallinn.
This was the sixth time that SEI Tallinn has organised the Sustainable Development Forum. This year’s topic was motivated by the Rio+20 Conference, held under the auspices of the UN in June, where a main topic was the green economy. Organisation of the Sustainable Development Forum was financed by the State Chancellery and the Environmental Investment Centre.
