Take care while moving about in nature 18.03
Due to the emergency situation that has been declared in the country, you should also exercise caution when moving around in nature – avoid crowded hiking trails and keep your distance from other people.
‘Over the past few days, state forest hiking trails have become very popular among people moving about in nature. Without a doubt, spending time in nature is a great way to stay healthy in the fresh air and to strengthen your immune system. However, to restrict the spread of the corona virus, it should be remembered that on the trails you should keep your distance from other people and follow the signposts to reduce the number of people that are moving towards you’, said Marge Rammo, Head of RMK’s Visitor Management Department.RMK has hundreds of places in nature to visit in Estonia, meaning that the state forest has plenty of space for everyone, and that visits simply need to be spread out. To reduce big crowds gathering in one area and the resultant risk of infection, you should avoid very popular objects, such as Viru Bog and Keila-Joa Park, and explore lesser known trails. Visits to the most visited hiking trails should also be reduced due to the fact that it is a burden on the object’s environment. You can find information on crowded trails from the Loodusega Koos website.
‘If the parking lot of the hiking trail has more than ten cars, you should drive away and find a new, less visited object with the help of the “RMK Loodusega koos” mobile app or website. Although RMK’s visitor centres are closed to clients, you can ask our communications managers for recommendations via e-mail loodusegakoos@rmk.ee’, said Marge Rammo when asked about the various recreation options available in the forest.
When moving about in nature, it is important to make sure that you don’t leave behind any napkins, drinking cups, tableware, etc., that you have brought with you and that could endanger other people and the environment.
You can read more specific instructions on moving around in nature and protecting your health and the environment from the Loodusega koos website.
