Get your Christmas tree from the state forest! 25.11
RMK is welcoming everyone to choose a Christmas tree they like in the state forest in December. Locations of Christmas trees and payment information can be found on RMK’s Loodusega app, as well as the RMK website www.rmk.ee/kuuseke.
According to Chief Forester at RMK Andres Sepp, Christmas is the time for spending time together and a trip to the forest with family or friends to get a Christmas tree will give everyone a peaceful and joyful Christmas feeling. RMK has been offering Christmas trees from state forests since 2008 to help preserve this wonderful festive tradition.Christmas trees are only to be taken from places where they have no potential to grow to their full height, such as roadsides, near ditches and under electrical lines as well as under older trees. You can find a helpful online map on RMK’s mobile app or on RMK’s home page www.rmk.ee/kuuseke. This map will pinpoint your location and guide you to the nearest suitable place for cutting down a Christmas tree.
The trees must not be cut in young forests or nature reserves. A young forest can be identified by trees being maintained and of the same height. Protected areas are coloured brown on the map and are clearly marked with signs in the forest.
You should pay for your Christmas tree before cutting it, using a mobile app or a bank transfer. A Christmas tree under 1 m tall costs 3 euros, 1-2 m tall 8 euros and 2-3 m tall 13 euros. It is possible to buy taller Christmas trees; the prices are outlined on the RMK website. You must have an SMS or a bank payment confirmation with you in the forest, as RMK or Environment Agency employees can ask for it during random checks.
“RMK has gifted Christmas trees to foster homes and several social organisations for years,” says Andres Sepp. “This year, we will bring Christmas trees to hospitals, so that we can bring some Christmas cheer to our doctors and nurses for whom this year has been particularly hard.” We applaud and thank our medical workers, and we wish them and all the patients spending the holidays in the hospital strength and good health. “We hope our Christmas tree will bring them some Christmas joy and hope for the new year.”
RMK will gift a total of 106 Christmas trees to 14 hospitals across Estonia. The trees will be delivered to hospitals no later than December 17.
