RMK awaits autumn presentations to the nature conference 02.06
RMK organises a nature conference on the restoration of habitats and populations on 3 and 4 November at the Narva College of the University of Tartu and invites everyone to present the results of their research and experiences conducting the restoration work.
Since the conference aims to bring together researchers, decision-makers and practitioners, presentations based on already completed work and experiences acquired during the process are particularly welcome.“At the conference, we want to see presentations that show the performance of specific restoration work and methods, but also practical explanations about how the restoration works have overcome the inevitable conflicts and problems,” Kaupo Kohv, the Head of RMK’s Nature Protection Department, explains.
The conference addresses five types of habitats where restoration work is completed: inland bodies of water (rivers and lakes), coastal sea, semi-natural communities, forests and bogs.
According to Kohv, restoration of ecosystems has become a central direction in the nature preservation policy. European Union aims to restore at least 30% of habitats in poor conditions for 2030. Estonia has worked hard on restoring bogs, semi-natural communities and watercourses. We have also successfully improved the condition of various amphibians and fish species but many huge challenges still remain and those can only be solved by working together with scientists, practitioners and communities.
“Although the conference focuses on addressing specific cases, presentations about the theoretical bases of restoration works are also welcome,” Kohv adds.

The deadline for the submission of the initial titles of presentations and workshops is 15 August 2022. Registration for the conference in November will open in September.
