28.01.2009 - RMK continues inventory of heritage culture 28.01

This year, RMK continues the inventory of heritage culture objects in East and West-Viru, Pärnu, Saare and Hiiu Counties. The cost of the project is up to MEUR 1, of which 85% will be funded from the European Structural Funds.

“Last autumn, we submitted an application to the INTERREG IVA Programme for continuing the inventory of heritage culture and received an official confirmation on 14 January that our application was approved,” said Vaike Pommer, Planning Specialist of the State Forest Management Centre (RMK).

As the first step, investors will be sought. The first information days introducing the project will be held in the hall of East-Viru County Government on Friday, 6 February at 11.00 and in the hall of West-Viru County Government on Thursday, 12 February at 10.00. Everyone interested in contributing to the preservation of Estonian cultural heritage is welcome.

“In 2005, when we started dealing with heritage culture, we established a goal of mapping the entire heritage culture in Estonia regardless of the ownership of land or forest,” Vaike Pommer said.

In the projects conducted with the support of the INTERREG IIIA Programme of the European Structural Funds, RMK was the leading partner; cooperation partners were the Forestry Development Centre Tapio and the Ministry of the Environment. As a result of the work of more than 40 people who participated in the project, heritage culture was taken inventory of in Harju, Järva, Lääne and Rapla Counties. The county books of heritage culture of Harju and Järva Counties were published. The project was selected as one of the five most remarkable projects of the programme period.

RMK is a profit-making state agency established under the Forestry Act, aimed at sustainable and efficient management of the state forest. In addition to this, RMK creates possibilities for forest holidays and shapes nature awareness. RMK manages 38% of Estonia’s forests.
