More than 8000 Christmas trees brought from state forests 11.01

“We are happy that many Ukrainian refugees who have found shelter in Estonia discovered the opportunity to get a Christmas tree from a state forest. This was seen in the large amount of phone calls to the RMK Christmas tree support line with questions about what kind of spruce to get and where,” said Andres Sepp, Chief Forester of RMK.

Christmas is the time to notice and support each other and this also manifests through gifting Christmas trees. For example, one entrepreneur in Ida-Viru County has been gifting Christmas trees brought from state forests to low-income families for several years. This year, he brought 21 spruce trees from state forests: 20 for Ukrainian refugees and one for himself.

Selling Christmas trees is not a source of income for RMK, rather a way to entice people to explore nature during winter and keep the beautiful tradition of bringing home a Christmas tree alive. Due to this, RMK has been offering the opportunity to bring a Christmas tree home from a state forest for a small fee since 2008.

Christmas tree seekers can find a helpful online map on the RMK mobile app Loodusega Koos or on the RMK home page www.rmk.ee/kuuseke. This map will pinpoint your location and guide you to the nearest suitable place for cutting down a Christmas tree.
