Fish farm in
Põlula
The Põlula Fish Farm is located in Lavi Village,
Lääne-Viru County, on the western edge of the forest mass of Alutaguse, on the north-eastern
slope of the Pandivere uplands, at an average elevation of 67 metres above sea
level. It is known that fish have been raised by the outflow of Lavi spring for
at least 120 years. The first written records of fisheries originate from 1895,
when Hermann von Krause, the owner of the Põlula estate, showcased
live brown trout raised in the Põlula at an agricultural exhibition in Riga.
